Our History - Over 140 Years Of Service

Thrifty White Pharmacy was created by the combination of two major companies:

White Drug Enterprises

Thrifty Drug

1st H.E. White Drug Store in Jamestown, North Dakota

White Drug Enterprises

White Drug was founded in 1884 by Mr. and Mrs. H.E. White in Jamestown in what was then the Dakota Territory. Mrs. White was the first female pharmacist in the Territory. White Drug continued to grow over the years and had 38 stores when acquired by the parent company, Thrifty Drug Stores, Inc in 1985.

Thrifty Drug

Thrifty Drug was founded in 1957 by Mr. Douglas Stark, Mr. Jack Lindoo and Mr. Edward Olsen. Store #1 for Thrifty Drug Stores was located in Brainerd, MN. Jack and Doug were classmates in pharmacy school at the University of Minnesota and Ed was a fellow pharmacist a few miles down the road from Jack's store in Wisconsin. Jack and Ed continued to work in their communities while Doug took on company-wide operations and expansion as the business grew, store by store.

Today at Thrifty White Pharmacy, we go beyond filling prescriptions. We focus on value-based care, enabled by our proprietary technology solutions. Our Ready Refill and Rx med Sync appointment-based adherence models are pillars in the foundation of our patient engagement and clinical service delivery model. Monthly visits with our patients include multiple touchpoints with patients to foster better pharmacy/patients relationships that enable our pharmacists to have prioritized, targeted goals and interventions during appointments with our patients.

Thrifty White Pharmacy is committed to providing healthcare to small towns and cities in the rural Midwest that range from 5,000 to 50,000 in population. The 90+ locations across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Montana and Wisconsin provide services and programs that make it easier for patients to get the prescriptions they need, optimize patient's prescription drug regimen, and allows the pharmacist to spend more time interacting with patients to increase medication compliance and improve patient health.

Thrifty White Pharmacy continues to find innovative ways to serve the patients in our communities - from opening our first tele-pharmacy in 2003 to expanding our patient care service offerings.

Our partnerships and relationships with providers, payors, manufacturers, and health systems are all important components to the success of Thrifty White Pharmacy. Through these partnerships and our ability to be nimble and flexible, we have collectively improved care, reduced costs, and have improved the health of the patients we serve.

We believe that our services and products must exceed the expectations of our customers. Our commitment to our community starts with our local store employee owners. Many of our pharmacists have chosen to live and work in towns and communities similar to where they were born and raised.

Thrifty White Pharmacy believes its greatest asset is loyal, hard-working people who cooperate in a spirit of teamwork to help the company grow and prosper. We also strongly believe in helping the communities we do business in. Our store managers, pharmacists, and hourly people are all expected to contribute to the community in whatever way they can. Our goal is to be the drug store of choice, to be the best drug store in each town we operate in.
